Comprehensive Management of Valvular Damage and Aortic Dilation via the Bentall Procedure

Mr. Jamal's Story.

Mr. Jamal, a resident of East Jakarta, initially thought his symptoms were merely a common digestive issue. In late 2024, he suffered from persistent abdominal bloating that did not improve despite weeks of gastric treatment, including injections administered at a local hospital.

His condition subsequently worsened; he began to experience sleep difficulties, and even light activities—such as bathing or walking to the bathroom—left him breathless. Further examinations revealed a significant accumulation of fluid around his heart, a condition initially managed with medication for several months.

Prompted by a colleague who had experienced similar symptoms and encouraged by his HR team, Mr. Jamal decided to seek a consultation at Heartology Cardiovascular Hospital. There, a cardiologist examined him and, through a CT scan, discovered damage to his aortic valve accompanied by a dilation of the aorta. A surgeon confirmed this diagnosis as a second opinion.

The condition was ultimately treated via the Bentall procedure—a complex surgery performed by the Heartology medical team to replace the aortic valve and repair the dilated section of the aorta. The surgery lasted from the evening through the early hours of the morning. Mr. Jamal recovered in the ICU, supported by a medical team he found to be highly informative and patient when answering his questions.

He also appreciated the friendliness of the entire Heartology team, ranging from security and parking staff to the nurses in the inpatient ward.

Every journey is different. This is a personal experience. Each person's condition, treatment options, and outcomes may differ.
