No Symptoms, Yet Blocked Arteries: Mr. Eko’s Heart Bypass Surgery

Mr. Eko's Story.

Mr. Eko felt healthy. He was used to exercising for about 30 minutes every morning and had no chest complaints at all. A routine health check instead revealed blockages in the blood vessels of his heart, which led him to undergo bypass surgery at Heartology.

Found Through a Routine Checkup

“I was one of those patients without any symptoms,” Mr. Eko said. He had no chest pain and no shortness of breath. The first finding came from a routine medical checkup run as a program at his workplace. He then had a follow-up test, cardiac catheterization, in which a thin tube is passed through a blood vessel to look at the coronary arteries, the vessels that supply blood to the heart muscle.

The catheterization found three fairly long blockages in the blood vessels of his heart, a condition known as coronary artery disease. The doctor then recommended bypass surgery. Mr. Eko admitted he felt uneasy hearing the news. Still, he chose to think positively and saw this step as a way to improve his condition in the future.

Choosing to Trust the Medical Team

Mr. Eko chose to have his surgery at Heartology because he had long known and trusted the values of the business group behind the hospital. He also placed full trust in his doctors' explanations. “I believe that whatever the doctor tells me, I will trust it and I will go through with it,” he said.

Bypass surgery, or coronary artery bypass grafting, creates a detour for blood to reach the heart muscle by going around the blocked part of a coronary artery. It was not a light decision, but Mr. Eko went ahead with it equipped with the explanations he had received from his doctors.

Recovery After Surgery

After surgery, Mr. Eko was cared for in the ICU and was on a ventilator, a breathing machine, for a time as part of his post-operative care. During this period he was supported by doctors from several specialties, including dr. Debby Christiana Soemitha, Sp.PD, dr. Santi Rahayu Dewayanti, Sp.P, and dr. Ayu Amalia Utami Putri, Sp.KFR, along with the nursing team who looked after him every day.

When the video was recorded, Mr. Eko's condition had improved and he was continuing to work toward a healthier life. At the end of his story he said, “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the entire medical team at Heartology.” He also encourages you not to hesitate to consult a doctor and to follow through with the treatment your doctor recommends, even if you have been feeling fine.

Every journey is different. This is a personal experience. Each person's condition, treatment options, and outcomes may differ.
